National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has denied claims that the Legislature is being controlled by the Executive.
Speaking in Mombasa on Friday, Muturi (pictured) said it is the practice of political parties to reach certain positions on parliamentary business.
“There is absolutely nothing wrong with members of the party forming government meeting their leaders,” Muturi said.
The Speaker said for the President to fulfill promises made in election campaigns, he must meet members of his party to explain to them how he intends to deliver.
Speaking after opening an induction retreat of the National Assembly’s Liaison Committee, Muturi said Opposition leaders also meet their MPs to discuss how to approach House business.
“Is that controlling the House? No! That is coming up with a party position,” Muturi said.
