High Court yesterday extended orders barring the arrest, harassment and prosecution of 12 National Super Alliance (Nasa) affiliated politicians and officials for a month.
The leaders include Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, senators James Orengo, George Khaniri and Cleopas Malala, Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga, MPs; George Aladwa, Simba Arati, Babu Owino, Businessman Jimi Wanjigi, Nasa CEO Norman Magaya, Nasa strategist David Ndii, and Oduor Ong’wen.
Justice Luka Kimaru extended the interim orders after their lawyer Nelson Havi informed the court that the politicians appeared at DCI headquarters to record statement on Thursday last week at 11am as earlier directed but were informed by the police that for now, they are not persons of interest in the ongoing investigations.
The judge, however, noted that the 12 politicians still need protection of the court because they are living in fear of being arrested and therefore extended their Sh100,000 anticipatory bail he had earlier granted them. “Interim order are hereby extended until March 19,” the judge said.
