Senator Sakaja has promised to have the matter resolved

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has strongly advised Kenyan DJs after the recent unfolding that saw them get arrested.

In a statement, the governor said that Nairobians need peaceful nights and their rights to have good working and living conditions should not be violated.

The issue of arrest and harassment of DJs has come to my attention. I appreciate youths trying to make a living. However, DJs especially in the residential areas, should not violate the rights of Nairobians to a good working and living environment. Watoto wa shule and hardworking Nairobians should be allowed to have a peaceful night so as to have productive days,” he said.

Sonko added that the crackdowns are from complaints received from residents and in most instances bar owners and managers are rarely in the scene during operations, which is why DJs are held responsible because they operate the music machines.

Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja who commented on the same under the hash tag stop arresting DJs, said he had taken up the matter and he would bring together relevant authorities to ensure the arrests are stopped.

I've taken up this matter. Deejays are trying to eke out an honest living. If there's a problem with the establishment, arrest the owner not the deejay. I'm bringing together the relevant institutions including @NemaKenya to make sure they all #StopArrestingDjs,” read Sakaja’s tweet.

The senator’s intervention came after various DJs and renowned artistes protested on twitter over the arrests.
